Afterschool Survey On behalf of the West Virginia Statewide Afterschool Partnership/Network, West Virginia University Extension Service is conducting a study to assess the current demand for and status of afterschool programs in West Virginia . The Statewide Afterschool Partnership/Network is a group within West Virginia that is working to develop a sustainable statewide structure of regional and local partnerships and a mechanism to generate resources necessary to sustain new and existing afterschool programs. To be able to move forward with this work, it is necessary to collect information about the various afterschool programs throughout the state. Thus far, 254 schools and organizations have completed the survey. Please do not complete this survey if your school or organization has already done so. A list of schools and organization can be viewed on the following link. Schools and Organizations list The information collected during this research study will be used to assist in the expansion and strengthening of the West Virginia Statewide Afterschool Partnership/Network. The participation of you or a member of your staff is entirely voluntary. You may refuse to respond to any one question without excluding your entire questionnaire. A decision not to participate will not affect your ability to access any of the services of the statewide network in the future. The responses to this questionnaire will be used only for this study and will be kept confidential. Any identifying information will be used for record-keeping purposes only. Questionnaire responses will be kept on file with the WVU Extension Service for one year after the completion of the research and then will be destroyed. Please complete the Afterschool Survey If you have any questions or concerns about the questionnaire, you may contact Dr. Allison Nichols, WVU Extension Service, AHNichols@mail.wvu.edu .
What are program effects and capacity building indicators? Program effets specifically concerns the impact of literacy programs that are pursued in the four community sites. Factors relevant to the program, like improvement in reading skills, participation rates, assessments offered by teachers and professionals will be measured. This program assessment is needed so that if necessary, programs can be improved and data can be developed which will assist other communities seeking to initiate or strengthen their literacy programs. Capacity building indicators concentrate on the processes associated with leadership development, collaboration, and community network building in the four program demonstration sites. A five-year time frame provides the opportunity for some of the long-term capacity building activities that cannot be adequately assessed in short-term studies. Our focus on capacity building indicators allows project leaders to address the three goals of evaluation identified for state strengthening projects:
