Adult Programming

The Family Nutrition Program (FNP) targets limited resource adult audiences in 29 West Virginia counties including: Berkeley, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Doddridge, Fayette, Greenbrier, Hardy, Hampshire, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Preston, Summers, Taylor, Upshur, Wayne, Wirt and Wood. Nutrition Outreach Instructors (NOIs) have been trained extensively in nutrition and instruction techniques. The curriculum is selected by an internal review committee and the FNP Registered Dietitian.

NOIs work with a variety of partnering agencies (WIC, DHHR, HeadStart, etc.) to recruit eligible (>185% FPL) adults into a series of ongoing lessons. Classes last anywhere between four weeks to ten months. The current curriculum is "Cent$ible Nutrition" developed by the University of Wyoming. In addition, NOIs often conduct food demonstrations and distribute recipes and food to their participants.

Each adult participant is required to complete several forms upon entering and exiting the program. This includes an enrollment form, 24-hour food recall and behavior checklist.
