The Extension Agents in each County in West Virginia are official representatives of the West Virginia University Extension Service. Their specific responsibility is to help devlop and direct youth and adult educational programs that enhance the quality of living and personal development, and that stimulate social and economic development. The Jefferson County Extension Service Committee, the legal group which gives guidance to the county program, is established in accordance with WV Code §19-18-1, passed in 1963. (Acts of the West Virginia Legislature pertaining to the Cooperative Extension Service of West Virginia University date back to 1913.) WV Code §19-8-1 provides for the following members of the committee: (a) the president of the county farm bureau ( Brian Everhart) (b) The president of the county CEOS Council ( Wallis Anne Magaha) (c) The president of the county 4-H Leaders Association (Peggy Grantham) (d) A county commissioner designated by the county commission (Dale Manuel) (e) A member of the county board of education designated by the president of the county board of Education (Gary Kable) (f) a county representative of the grange ( This is no grange organization in Jefferson County) (g) two residents of the county appointed by the Board of Regents of West Virginia (Pete Walker, Arthena Roper and Michael Alvarez ) The Board of regents also appoints one member desinated by any other active farm organization in the county not already represented by virtue of this section of the law. If any of the above named organizations does not exist in the county, the Board of Regents may appoint from residents of the county an additional member for each such vacancy. |
